Sohai Ali Abro, a well-known actress, recently shared her views on how celebrities promote social causes.

During an appearance on a comedy show, she suggested that many actors focus more on enhancing their public image and social media presence rather than genuine activism. “I try to focus on entertainment,” Sohai stated. She added, “If a positive message emerges unintentionally from my work, that’s great, but it’s not my primary goal.”

Sohai expressed concern that today’s social activism often involves “jumping on the bandwagon,” with celebrities using social issues to remain relevant. Host Vasay Chaudhry supported her view, saying, “Celebrities and sports personalities often take up causes for a limited time because they are trending, and then they fail to continue their advocacy for those specific causes.” Sohai agreed, noting that some celebrities aim to portray themselves positively.

Vasay added, “If one becomes an activist simply by sharing a social media post, then their activism is very weak.” Sohai believes that activism can be about making small social changes rather than making a show of it. She prefers to work on meaningful projects instead of commenting on every issue, stating, “I should hold a placard or share my two cents on every issue.”
