Simon Cowell, the record executive who helped shape Liam Payne’s career as part of One Direction, broke down in tears during Payne’s funeral on Wednesday. The private ceremony was held at St. Mary’s Church in Amersham, England, over a month after Payne’s tragic death in Buenos Aires on October 16.

Cowell, accompanied by his fiancée Lauren Silverman, shared a deeply emotional moment with Payne’s parents, Geoff and Karen. He was seen burying his head on Geoff’s shoulder while holding Karen close. Silverman stood behind them with a hand on her chest, visibly moved by the scene.

Payne’s former bandmates—Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson—were present, along with other notable attendees such as James Corden and Scott Mills. Cheryl Cole, Payne’s ex and mother of their seven-year-old son Bear, arrived with Girls Aloud bandmates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was among the first to arrive, accompanied by Damian Hurley.

Following Payne’s passing, Cowell took to Instagram, expressing, “I feel empty. And I want you to know how much love and respect I have for you. Every tear I have shed is a memory of you.”

The somber event marked a heartfelt farewell for the “Teardrops” singer, whose death has left fans and loved ones devastated.
