Sham Kaushal, a veteran action director and father of actor Vicky Kaushal, recently reflected on one of the most challenging scenes of his career during an interview with Friday Talkies.

Vicky Kaushal’s father, who has worked on countless action sequences over the years, recalled the fire scene from the 2007 hit film Om Shanti Om, which almost gave him a heart attack due to the high risk involved.

At the time, VFX technology was limited, so the fire scene was shot using real flames, with three cameras and 60 crew members on set. Kaushal explained the immense pressure to time everything perfectly. “We were very vigilant about the timing of the shoot, the lighting, and extinguishing the fire as a slight delay would have proved detrimental to us,” he said. The stunt director described those 4-5 days of filming as “incredibly difficult.”

After wrapping the intense shoot, Kaushal admitted that he broke down in tears. “These are the moments that kill you, and you feel like you’re going to suffer a heart attack,” he revealed. Shah Rukh Khan, the film’s lead actor, noticed Kaushal’s anxiety and offered reassurance, saying, “Paaji tension na le, main aisa nikal jaunga.”

Even after decades in the industry, Kaushal admitted, “There is nothing in my field that I could call ‘easy’.” Om Shanti Om also marked Deepika Padukone’s debut in Hindi cinema.
