Dharmendra faces cheating allegations involving ‘Garam Dharam Dhaba’ franchise
The Patiala House Court in Delhi has summoned veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra and two others in connection with a cheating case involving the ‘Garam Dharam Dhaba’ franchise.
The summons, issued by Judicial Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal, follows a complaint by businessman Sushil Kumar, who alleged he was misled into investing in the restaurant franchise.
“The evidence on record prima facie indicates that the accused persons induced the complainant,” stated the court, which has listed the case for further hearing on February 20, 2025.
The accused face charges under Sections 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 34 (common intent), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to Kumar, the accused promised substantial returns from the franchise, citing a monthly turnover of ₹70-80 lakh at existing outlets. He was allegedly lured into investing ₹63 lakh and purchasing land in Uttar Pradesh but claimed no progress was made toward establishing the franchise.
Despite repeated attempts to contact the accused, Kumar alleges he received no response and was later threatened. Earlier, police called the matter a civil breach of contract.
However, the court found enough evidence to proceed, noting the transaction’s link to the Garam Dharam Dhaba. Advocate DD Pandey represents the complainant.
