Actor Khaqan Shahnawaz recently ignited controversy after claiming he could play Indian actress Kareena Kapoor’s son, rather than her lover, in a drama due to her age.

During a talk show with Tabish Hashmi on December 14, Shahnawaz responded to a fan’s request to see him work with Kapoor, stating, “Kareena was ‘quite old’,” leading to widespread backlash.

His comments were criticized as “ageist” by Kapoor’s fans, who pointed out his relatively low profile compared to the Bollywood star’s immense fame. One fan remarked, “Bro thinks he cracked a funny joke, you don’t exist for her.” Another pointed out, “Shahnawaz is a ‘nobody here in Pakistan,’ while Kapoor is a legend in Bollywood.”

Some speculated that Shahnawaz was seeking attention by mentioning Kapoor’s name, with one user accusing him of “craving publicity” and trying to gain fame through her. However, a few defended Shahnawaz, agreeing that Kapoor had indeed aged, although their reasoning was unclear.

Kapoor’s supporters quickly hit back, reminding Shahnawaz that “age is just a number,” and pointing out that she has remained a lead actress throughout her career. A user concluded, “Everyone on this earth will age,” urging Shahnawaz to stop making such comments.
