Nargis Fakhri’s sister Aliya faces murder charges involving her ex-boyfriend
Aliya Fakhri, Nargis Fakhri’s sister, has been arrested in connection with the tragic deaths of her former boyfriend, Edward Jacobs, 35, and his friend, Anastasia Ettienne, 33, in Queens, New York, last month.
Aliya, 43, is accused of intentionally setting fire to a detached garage, which led to the deaths of both victims. The fire occurred on November 2, and authorities believe it was deliberate. District Attorney Melinda Katz confirmed that Jacobs and Ettienne died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries after being trapped inside the burning structure.
According to a witness, Aliya allegedly shouted, “You’re all going to die today” at Jacobs, who was sleeping upstairs in the garage at the time. The witness then saw the building engulfed in flames shortly after hearing the outburst. Ettienne, Jacobs’ friend, rushed downstairs after hearing the commotion and attempted to rescue Jacobs but tragically did not survive.
Aliya has been indicted by a grand jury on four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and charges of first- and second-degree arson. If convicted on the top charge, she could face life in prison.
While Nargis Fakhri has not publicly commented, their mother has defended Aliya, stating, “I don’t think she would be killing someone. She was a person who was caring for everybody. She tried to help everybody.”
She also revealed that Aliya had struggled with opioid addiction following a dental mishap, which may have contributed to her erratic behavior.
