Tom Cruise is set to star in Doug Liman’s upcoming supernatural thriller Deeper, marking an exciting collaboration between the actor and filmmaker.
Liman confirmed both his and Cruise’s involvement with the project during a screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho in New York City.
In an interview with Showbiz411, Liman expressed his excitement about delving into the horror genre, saying, “I have never done one, and neither has Tom.”
Deeper, currently in the early stages of development, is set up at Warner Bros. However, it remains unclear whether the film will be Liman’s next directorial project. The movie is centered on the story of an astronaut who encounters a mysterious and terrifying force while descending into an uncharted trench.
The film has faced several changes since its inception in 2016. Originally, Bradley Cooper was attached to star, with Kornél Mundruczó set to direct. Later, Idris Elba and director Baltasar Kormákur tried to bring the project to life, but those efforts fell through as well.
If the current plans materialize, Deeper will mark the third or fourth collaboration between Cruise and Liman, who previously worked together on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made.
The duo is also developing an ambitious NASA project to be shot in outer space in partnership with SpaceX, which is still in the works. Fans of the pair will have much to look forward to as they continue to work together on groundbreaking projects.
