Varun Dhawan clarifies ‘Baby John’ is not remake of ‘Theri’
Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has clarified that his upcoming action thriller Baby John, directed by Atlee, is not a remake of the filmmaker’s Tamil hit Theri, but rather an adaptation. The movie, which revolves around a police officer and single father, stars Dhawan in the lead role alongside Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff as the antagonist Babbar Sher.
Speaking during a promotional discussion, Dhawan explained the creative choices behind adapting the film. “When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film,” he stated.
Dhawan emphasized that while the film draws inspiration from Theri, it deviates significantly in terms of storyline and structure. “We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that’s what’s done. Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different,” he added.
Addressing fans’ expectations, Dhawan remarked, “If someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that’s not what the film is. It’s an adaptation.”
Directed by Kalees, Baby John is slated for a Christmas release on December 25, following its postponement from May.
