Bollywood star Akshay Kumar recently shared an amusing anecdote about his extended role in the 2002 fantasy action thriller Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Akshay revealed that his original role in the film was much smaller, but he managed to extend it for personal reasons.

“In that film, Armaan Kohli kills me. He’s playing the snake and he kills me, and then I die. Okay? Fantastic. I was on per day, I used to get (paid) per day. I wanted money, I wanted to buy a flat,” Akshay recalled. He explained that when he realized the production team was struggling to get another actor’s dates, he seized the opportunity. “So I asked, ‘Paaji, should I do it instead?’ ‘But you are dead.’ After five minutes, he said, ‘Listen, Akshay! I’ll put you in coma so you come back,’” he laughed. “So if you see the film, you’ll find that I’m in coma, I’m not dead. Then, I get up and fight him again. So I got paid for five more days,” he added.

Akshay admitted that he did the film for selfish reasons but acknowledged that it has since gained cult status due to its frequent television re-runs. Jaani Dushman featured an ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Manisha Koirala, and marked the acting debut of singer Sonu Nigam.

Akshay called the film the only pure horror project he has done, apart from horror comedies like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and the upcoming Bhooth Bangla. He revealed that both he and his wife, Twinkle Khanna, are horror buffs. The actor is currently filming Bhooth Bangla in Jaipur and has several upcoming releases, including Sky Force, Jolly LLB 3, and Hera Pheri 3.
