Being the girl Justin Bieber pursued in his breakout music video “Baby” was a whirlwind experience for Jasmine Villegas. Already an aspiring singer and actress, she landed the role at age 16 after a videographer she had worked with recommended her. “He brought it to our attention like, ‘Hey, I showed them your picture, and they want you to be in the ‘Baby’ video,’” she recalls.

Filming took place in January 2010 at Universal CityWalk and Lucky Strike Lanes in Los Angeles. “It was all day, from early in the morning to late at night,” Villegas remembers. The video premiered on February 19, 2010, skyrocketing Bieber’s fame. “Seeing myself in the video and seeing that online and on TV, it was such an honor,” she says.

However, the attention wasn’t always positive. “I didn’t get too much love from his fans,” she admits, recalling online bullying and negative reactions on tour. Despite this, she cherishes the experience, saying, “There’s the positives and the negatives, but all in all, it was such a great experience.”

Now a mother of two, Villegas says, “I wish I could relive that day,” and would love to work with Bieber again. “Absolutely.”
