Tom Cruise is known for performing his stunts, no matter how dangerous they may be. He recently recounted performing a particularly intense scene that caused him to pass out.

Cruise revealed the details of the stunt during a conversation with the Empire outlet. The scene in question features his character, Ethan Hunt, dangling from the wing of a 1930s Boeing Stearman biplane. This intense stunt was filmed in the air over South Africa at an altitude of 10,000 feet.

The actor revealed to the publication, “When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen.” Cruise continued, “So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”

Filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie expressed to the outlet that some stunts would melt one’s brain. He added that, “Any day in Africa,” the lead actor would perform something that would surpass anything he had ever done before.

The director also discussed another scene that surpasses the intensity of the aforementioned stunt—the one Cruise performed underwater. While talking about the unnamed stunt, he said, “I truly want to puke thinking about the stress.” He labeled it as “intense.”

“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is slated for release on May 23, 2025.
