Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has spoken out against media outlets for scrutinizing her appearance, calling it “bullying” rather than journalism.

Brown’s comments follow widespread discussions about her recent blonde-haired look during promotional events for her upcoming Netflix film, The Electric State. Some publications and social media users claimed her new appearance made her look older.

In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Brown criticized the media’s focus on her physical appearance. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing… This isn’t journalism. This is bullying. Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing,” she stated.

Reflecting on her experience growing up in the public eye, Brown added, “I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me.”

She also pointed out how some expect her to remain the same as she did in Stranger Things Season 1. “They act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time… And because I don’t, I’m now a target,” she said, highlighting media headlines questioning her appearance.

Refusing to apologize for growing up, she declared, “I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.”

Several actors, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Emma Caulfield, Enola Holmes co-star Louis Partridge, and Brazilian actor Kevin Vechiatto, expressed their support for Brown.
