Following her criticism of Indian singer Kanika Kapoor’s newly released and uncredited performance of Boohey Barian. Musician and actor Hadiqa Kiani has promised to take “necessary action” against those who have “illegally claimed” her songs since the 1990s.
On April 28, Kapoor released her rendition of Boohey Barian without giving credit to Kiani. The singer addressed the issue on her Instagram account, posting a copy of the music video. Kiani was open about how much that bothered her.

Diet Sabya, a popular Indian social media platform, also uploaded a screenshot. Triggering reactions from several followers claiming Kiani sold the rights to Boohey Barian to Saregama India. Which is the record label under whom Kapoor recorded her cover. Diet Sabya’s claims were debunked by Kiani in a response to Diet Sabya’s Instagram stories.

She stated, “No, they [Saregama India] don’t [possess the rights].” “I’ve never sold the rights to this or any other song on my Roshni CD” (1998). Many companies have fraudulently claimed my songs since it was a simple thing to do in the 1990s, but we are taking necessary steps to achieve justice, not just for my songs, but for the thousands of songs by Pakistani artists stolen during that period.”

On her own Instagram stories, Kiani emphasised that she owns the rights to her entire portfolio. “I hold the whole rights to ‘Boohey Barian,’ as well as all of the songs on my album Roshni.” My mother was an accomplished poet. Anyone claiming ownership of my masters or rights is doing so in violation of the law, and my team is initiating legal action.”
