  • On Monday, a unique program was established with the goal of increasing the number of female gaffers in Hindi films.
  • The ‘Undercurrent Lab’ will focus its first year on training ten women (chosen after an interview procedure) in movie lighting.

Actress Richa Chadha and producer-director Shuchi Talati have bring forth an incubator program. This is for the women who wants to work as gaffers in the film industry. The program is called ‘Undercurrent Lab.’

The unique program was initiated on Monday. With the goal of increasing the number of female gaffers in Hindi films. The ‘Undercurrent Lab’ will focus its first year on training ten women (chosen after an interview procedure) in movie lighting. It will begin with a one-of-a-kind, hands-on workshop. In which the participants will learn the craft from real life industry gaffers and cinematographers. Moreover, the girls will be sent out on the field to work as trainees on film sets. After they are done with a week-long crash session.

Moreover, two of the ten girls will be cast in Richa and Ali Fazal’s first film, ‘Girls Will Be Girls.’ Which will begin filming in October and will include a nearly all-female team. Commenting on the occasion, Richa said, “We are starting this training program for women which aims to increase the participation of women behind the camera. I hope that the initiative seeds in a much larger change in the way things work in this industry.”
