Even though critics didn’t like it, Ek Villain Returns is doing well at the box office. The movie, with John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, and Tara Sutaria, came out on July 29. It was directed by Mohit Suri. The movie is a sequel to Mohit’s 2014 film Ek Villain, which starred Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, and Riteish Deshmukh.

On Saturday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh sent out a tweet with the first-day box office numbers for Ek Villain Returns. He wrote, “Ek Villain Returns takes advantage of the fact that it is a sequel and starts off better in single-screen mass pockets and Tier-2 centres.” Metros, especially those with national chains, need to pick up speed… Day 2 and 3 total 7.05 crore.

A report in Box Office India said that the movie had made 1.5 crore nett in advance bookings, which started on Wednesday. It kept this momentum on the day it came out, especially outside of the high-end premium multiplexes. Ek Villain, on the other hand, opened with a huge 16.5 crore. During its run, it brought in an estimated 170 crore.

The events of Ek Villain Returns take place eight years after those of its predecessor. It also introduces a new serial killer who kills women with one-sided lovers. According to a review of the movie by Hindustan Times, “Two macho men, John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor, did their best action-hero impressions, and then two pretty girls, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria, tried so hard to make their characters make sense, but no foursome could save Ek Villain Returns.”
