Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote in a tweet, “#AnActionHero gets the much-needed boost/jump on Day 2, but the 2-day total remains extremely low, despite favourable word of mouth… Mass circuits are weak… Needs miraculous turnaround on Day 3… Fri 1.31 cr, Sat 2.16 cr. Total: ₹ 3.47 cr. #India biz.”

While there was a 60% increase in numbers on its second day, particularly in northern India, the movie hasn’t been able to pull crowds to theatres for the important opening weekend, according to a report on the trade website Box Office India. If the movie wants to save its week at the box office, it needs to perform well on Sunday.

Ayushmann plays Maanav, a movie star who is on the run after a guy died during a film shoot, in the satirical movie alongside Jaideep Ahlawat. The brother of the deceased, played by Jaideep, wants retribution from Manav. Although the movie has garnered favourable reviews, people didn’t seem to be interested in this story of revenge.

Ayushmann confirmed on Friday that Akshay Kumar would be a special guest star in An Action Hero. The actor referred to the seasoned performer as “the OG Khiladi” and praised him for appearing in a cameo in his most recent movie. The movie also stars Malaika Arora and Nora Fatehi, who are featured in the special numbers Jehda Nasha and Aap Jaisa Koi, respectively.

Anek and Doctor G, Ayushmann’s other 2022 releases, debuted poorly as well. Anubhav Sinha’s political drama Anek made 1.77 crore on day 1, but Doctor G, the directorial debut of Anubhuti Kashyap, performed better with 3.87 crore earned on day 1.
