On Saturday, Irrfan Khan would have turned 56. The late actor was one of India’s most well-regarded performers, although he made little fuss about his outstanding performances in a number of high-profile Hollywood productions. He was initially cast alongside Deepika Padukone in the 2015 movie Piku, and she acknowledged that she was apprehensive about the pairing. Deepika once admitted that she feared he could consider her beneath him.
In Piku, Irrfan and Deepika Padukone had their first job together. Three National Film Awards were among the several accolades it later received from Indian and other film festivals. Juhi Chaturvedi won the National Film Award for Best Original Screenplay and Best Dialogues, while Amitabh Bachchan took home the prize for Best Actor.
Deepika has shared her concerns about working with Irrfan in an interview from 2015, “I thought he would be an intense actor, an intense person, everything about him is intense, courtesy media’s perception. I thought he would be stern and not interact and look down upon me thinking me being a commercial heroine. But he is very different from that.”
She had added, “He is humorous. There are similarities between us like he is also shy… He talks less but when he says, it is very funny. I think his comic timing is pretty untapped. And no amount of explanation can give justice to the fine talent that he is.”
After attending Deepika’s Hollywood debut film, XXX: Return of Xander Cage, promotional event, Irrfan ended up becoming her “favourite person.” In response to his passing in 2020, Deepika uploaded a blank Instagram post with a broken heart emoji.
Irrfan was the recipient of the Padma Shri award and a National Film Award. He had produced a number of critically acclaimed movies, including the Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire, which both won Academy Awards, Salaam Bombay!, and Life in a… His most well-known films include Metro, Maqbool, Paan Singh Tomar, Piku, The Lunchbox, Haider, and Hindi Medium.
