For the past few years, Sonu Nigam has slowed down with playback singing and has instead been performing his classics live concerts. Nonetheless, the singer and Pritam collaborated together again for two songs in Laal Singh Chaddha last year. Before, they had collaborated on the films Desi Boys (2007), Jab We Met (2007), and Dhoom 2 (2006). (2011).

Unfortunately, the Hindi movie starring Aamir Khan failed, and the songs were also forgotten. Laal Singh Chaddha, according to Sonu, has been “plagued by negativity.”

Advait Chandan, the director of Laal Singh Chaddha, received online calls for a boycott from some users of social media. They were criticising the lead actor’s 2015 remarks that living in India had become “intolerable.” The 1994 Tom Hanks-starring Hollywood picture Forrest Gump was officially remade in Hindi.

The singer responded that they have become staples at his concerts when asked if the songs he has performed for Laal Singh Chaddha might have been more well-known. Sonu Nigam stated in an interview, “The credit for Laal Singh Chaddha goes to both Aamir [Khan] and Pritam. The movie, unfortunately, was plagued by negativity. Otherwise, the songs I sang would have reached the level of Kal Ho Naa Ho. But I always say that every piece of art comes with its own destiny. Today, Kahani and Main Ki Karaan are a staple at my concerts.”

Together with Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh, and Manav Vij, Laal Singh Chaddha included these actors. Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the lyrics for the songs. Unusual for a movie, the songs from the soundtrack were made available as audio tracks before the trailer. On August 11, 2022, the film—which was filmed in more than 100 locations—was released in theatres.

The singer also provided the vocals for the film’s title, Shehzada, which features Kartik Aaryan in the lead role and was released by Pritam. One of his “all-time favourites,” he claimed, was the Shehzada album’s title track. Sonu also declared that he would be performing for Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu’s Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie is scheduled to come out in December 2023.
