Vivek Agnihotri, a filmmaker, recently praised Shah Rukh Khan for the enormous success of his movie Pathaan. The Kashmir Files director has attacked individuals who protested the movie, days after criticising the song Besharam Rang from the movie that caused controversy before its release. A video of Vivek’s interview appeared on Reddit, where commenters had differing opinions on it.

Vivek stated on Twitter last year that he received threats as a result of his remarks about Besharam Rang. He had posted a video criticising the song, in which Deepika and Shah Rukh were shown having a romantic encounter in Spain. After tweeting, “WARNING… video against Bollywood. Don’t watch it if you are a ‘secular’.”  avoid watching it.” Some individuals criticised the song’s lyrics and costumes once Besharam Rang was released. A couple of them also demanded a movie boycott.

Regarding the movie, Vivek Agnihotri stated on The Carvaka Podcast that “Pathaan worked purely because of the charisma and fan following of Shah Rukh, the way he marketed it and the way he took it on his shoulders that ‘it is my film and I am responsible for it’, which is pretty good.”

He added“I also think that some credit should also go to people who were making stupid statements against the film and people who were unnecessarily protesting and asking for boycott. These are different people from regular ‘boycott Bollywood gang’. There is one kind that is always saying ‘boycott Bollywood’ for everything for many years. These were new players in the market and there was no need for them to do this. There were some violent factors who were saying we will burn this and burn that and that, I think, also contributed to this. And of course, our media channels,”.

A person responded to Vivek‘s remarks by writing, “Wow wow wow….how the turntables.” Another person chimed in, saying, “If you look at his earlier tweets, he is a hypocritical opportunist who changes tunes regularly nothing surprising,” Another person added,  “I have absolute disregard for people who can’t even stay true to their words.”

Pathaan, directed by Siddharth Anand, has surpassed Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) to become the fifth-highest-earning Indian movie in history (2017). According to Yash Raj Films, the company that supported the movie, its current global gross is $946 crore. On January 25, it became available.
