Queen Margrethe of Denmark acknowledged Queen Elizabeth’s passing while commemorating her own Golden Jubilee.

At the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen on Saturday, Queen Margrethe, 82, presented a banquet to commemorate her 50 years in power. Queen Margrethe requested a moment of quiet before the festivities started in memory of Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Margrethe observed the loss of Queen Elizabeth in many ways than only the one-minute silence. She also cancelled the most of the weekend activities, leaving only the gala as a celebration on Saturday.

In addition, Queen Margrethe requested the cancellation of the Kong’s Nytorv concert, the Horse Squadron of the Guard Hussar Regiment, the scheduled carriage drives around the Royal Stables, and the guards’ parade at Amalienborg. Another visit to Copenhagen City Hall was postponed; a new date will be set at a later time.

Church at Our Lady Church, a meal on the Dannebrog for Nordic kings, and a Christianborg feast will all go on as scheduled on Sunday.

Denmark’s Queen also sent King Charles a special letter in honour of Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family, which said, “Your mother was very significant to my family and me. Among the European monarchs, she was a towering figure and a wonderful source of inspiration for all of us. We are going to miss her so much “by Reuters.

More than merely fellow queens, the two monarchs were also reported to be close friends and even distant cousins.

They are linked to King Christian IX of Denmark, whose daughter was Queen Alexandra, Elizabeth’s great-grandmother. The two are linked on Queen Margrethe’s mother’s side through Queen Victoria’s granddaughter Princess Margaret of Connaught.

Queen Margrethe discussed her connection with Queen Elizabeth and their shared nicknames, Daisy for Margrethe and Lilibet for Elizabeth, in a prior interview with ITV.

“That’s the way we have known each other always,” Queen Margrethe said, according to Newsweekadding, “That is what we call each other when we see and speak to one another. We are definitely affectionate, but I don’t want to splash it all over the place!”

The passing of Queen Elizabeth was confirmed on Thursday by Buckingham Palace. She was 96.
