Perhaps Haley Lu Richardson should keep her luggage packed. A rumored candidate for the lead role in the recently confirmed adaptation of Emily Henry’s 2021 New York Times bestselling book People We Meet on Vacation is the star of season two of The White Lotus, which goes to Sicily for its much-awaited sophomore effort.

Richardson responded, “I really saw I was tagged in that!” when asked about the Internet rumors. The news host Rundown Erin Lim Rhodes during the Oct. 20 premiere of The White Lotus.

Casting gossip swarms quickly. Would she agree to play Poppy, the protagonist of the book?

“I reached out to my agent about it,” Richardson revealed. “I was like, ‘so should I?’ I haven’t read the book, but obviously, I would read the book if they offered me the movie.”

Poppy is a cute name, as Richardson noted, so at least she knows that.

Poppy and Alex, best friends since college who have very different personalities (Poppy is more rebellious, while Alex is more of a homebody), make a commitment to get together every summer for a weeklong vacation. Their tale is told in the book People We Meet on Vacation.

When their relationship breaks down and they don’t speak for two years, Poppy persuades Alex to go on one last vacation in an effort to mend their relationship.

According to Deadline, Brett Haley, who most recently directed the 2018 movie Hearts Beat Loud with Nick Offer man and Kiersey Clemons, will helm the adaptation.

Richardson was direct when asked what viewers might expect from The White Lotus’ second season: “It’s f—ked up.”
