Quinta Brunson, one of Mindy Kaling’s biggest supporters, thinks more people ought to join her in celebrating Kaling’s professional achievements.

The former Mindy Project creator and star, 32, was mentioned by the Abbott Elementary star as one of the Hollywood heavy hitters she’s most eager to collaborate with going forward on Thursday.

The Hollywood Reporter was informed by Brunson, 32, that Kaling, 43, “had a little renaissance happening.” I don’t believe she can pull off what she’s doing easily, and I believe others are taking advantage of her.

She went on, “She’s Mindy Kaling, so I understand that they’re not actually. But if she were a man, everyone would be talking about her all the time. Her actions are quite challenging to pull off. Sex Lives of College Girls is a pretty wonderful f—-ing show that people can’t wait to come back to, while Never Have I Ever has a K-pop-level atmosphere surrounding it.”

For nine seasons of The Office, Kaling gained widespread recognition as Kelly Kapoor, and from 2012 to 2017, she starred as the star of The Mindy Project on Fox and Hulu. She is now working on projects for Netflix and HBO Max while also writing and executive producing them.

She acknowledged that the reactions of Never Have I Ever fans had taken her by surprise.

“This is a show that we thought only a certain group of people would like, and that wasn’t the case,” she explained. “And it gave us the confidence to explore more of these storylines that we felt that previously, we would’ve been like, ‘That seems too specific, and people aren’t going to like it.’ So yeah, that’s been the biggest surprise to me.”

She added, “I think every character represents a different element of my personality, which is one of the beautiful things about a program like this and developing it.”

She cited Sex Lives of College Girls as an example “I didn’t want to write a story about a young, submissive Asian woman. Although they are vastly different from one another, the women in my sex-positive show must all have an open attitude toward sex and be enthusiastic about their adventurous lives.”
