  • Following a seven-year tenure as the Comedy Central series’ host, Noah, 38, announced his departure on Thursday night.
  • A few hours before the show airs, a clip of the late-night host’s final monologue was made available.
  • In it, he thanked his audience and the “amazing” Black women who, in his words, “a lot of the reason why I’m here.”

Trevor Noah said, “I recall when we first launched the show, we couldn’t fill an audience. “There were empty seats, and now that I think about it, I never take this for granted.”

Trevor Noah further says enjoy it when a seat is occupied to watch whatever I’m doing because I know there’s an empty seat behind it, so thank you very much, he said. “We appreciate everyone who watches and shares the videos,” the speaker said.

Noah added, “I want to say I appreciate those people. Even the people who hate-watch, you still pulled up the ratings so thank you, I’m eternally grateful to you.” He also said, “everyone who’s had an opinion, everyone whose been kind enough and gracious enough, even if it’s a critique… I want to say I appreciate those people.”

Noah then focused on the “smart” Black women in his life and those who were American citizens, claiming that they were crucial to his success.

“Special shout out to Black women,” he said. “I’ve often been attributed with these big ideas. People say, ‘Oh Trevor, you’re so smart.’ I’m like, “Who do you think educates me? Who do you think influenced me?” From my mother, my grandmother, my aunt, and all the other Black women in my life and in America.

“I advise people if you want to actually understand about America, talk to Black women because, unlike everyone else, Black women can’t afford to f—- around and find out,” Noah continued.

“Anywhere that Black people live, when things go bad, Black people realise that it’s worse for them,” he continued. “Black people understand how terrible it is when things go bad, especially in America.” In particular, “Black women know what s—- is; they know what occurs when things don’t go the way they should.”

The late-night presenter singled out a number of Black leaders, including Roxane Gay, Tarana Burke, Zoé Samudzi, and Tressie McMillan Cottom, calling them “great, wonderful women” and thanking them for taking the time “to inform me, educate me, and disagree with me.”

Talk to Black women, he said, “they’re a lot of the reason I’m here and I’m grateful to them. If you actually want to know what to do or how to do it? Or maybe the greatest way or the most equal way? “This has been an honour, and I’m grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you.”

Craig Kilborn presided over the show’s debut in 1996. Until 2015, Jon Stewart presided over the mock news desk before Noah was chosen to take over.

In a video clip posted on Twitter in September, Noah initially revealed his decision to leave the programme.

“A feeling of appreciation was one of the overarching sensations I found myself experiencing,” he said.

He continued, “There are so many people who contribute to this, and I want to thank the audience for a fantastic seven years. “I recall how many people didn’t believe in us when we first started. It was a crazy bet to make, and I still think it was a crazy one. What a ride it’s been.”
