Andie MacDowell becomes a superpower as you get older
Andie MacDowell is aware of the formula for real happiness. The Groundhog Day actress opens up about some of her favorite aspects of growing older, including the secret to appreciating daily living.
“It’s unquestionably the little things. It’s not only about flashy things, “claims MacDowell, 64. “That, in my opinion, really sticks with you. Being in the moment is important.”
As you age, the concept of being present in the moment “starts to become a power — like a superpower,” she continues. “That you aren’t preoccupied with unimportant stuff.”
Holding my grandchild and learning how to value my children as grownups are two other things MacDowell lists.
The Way Home, a new Hallmark series starring the actress, chronicles three generations of women as they traverse very different phases of life. In the movie, Sadie Laflamme-Snow portrays the 15-year-old granddaughter Alice, and MacDowell plays the small-town grandma Del, who periodically has disagreements with her daughters Kat (Chyler Leigh) and Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow).
The three ladies get together despite Alice having never before met her estranged grandma when the show starts, and they wonder if their long-separated family can ever be repaired.
MacDowell tells news that from her own family’s experience, she has learned to “give them the opportunity to lead.”
There comes a time when you have to respect them as unique people and realize that they are not you, she says.
