Charlotte Rampling becomes a hard-boiled grandma in the “Juniper” trailer
Greenwich Entertainment has released a fresh teaser for Charlotte Rampling’s upcoming family drama Juniper. The movie, which Matthew J. Saville is directing for the first time, is dubbed a “transformative story of love, tragedy, and acceptance.” It is based on Saville’s recollections of his New Zealand youth.
Rampling portrays a tough grandma and former war reporter who, after breaking her leg, moves into her son’s house so that her grandson Sam may care for her. He is a self-destructive teenager who recently received a suspension from his boarding school. Ruth is shown in the video as a tough, badass alcoholic who is attempting to reconcile with her estranged grandchild. The two-minute film also demonstrates Ruth and Sam gradually becoming friends. The video shows charming glimpses into their lives, from Ruth throwing a glass at Sam for diluting her drink to them dancing and enjoying the sunrise together.
In the movie, Edith Poor plays Sarah, Ruth’s nanny, Marton Csokas plays Robert, Ruth’s son, and George Ferrier plays Sam, Ruth’s troubled grandson. Playing Ruth is Rampling. It’s noteworthy to note that the juniper berries, which are a key ingredient in gin and which Ruth is addicted to and often eats in enormous amounts, served as the inspiration for the movie’s title, Juniper. The movie is fresh, encouraging, and fascinating with Rampling’s acting as a matriarch shining forth and Ferrier playing a mysterious yet warm grandson. Because of its stunning landscape, excellent performances, and compelling underlying plot, Juniper will surely find a following.
The film did well in film festivals in Tallinn, Edinburgh, Munich, and Brisbane, among others. While Saville directs from a screenplay he wrote, cinematographer Martyn Williams captures the breathtaking New Zealand landscapes. The producers of Juniper include Desray Armstrong, Angela Littlejohn, the New Zealand Film Commission, and Celsius Entertainment. Executive producers include Andrew Mackie, Richard Payton, Mark Chamberlain, Thierry Wase-Bailey, and Henriette Wollmann.
