We Have A Ghost, a forthcoming comedy starring David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Anthony Mackie, marks director Christopher Landon’s return to the director’s chair with a fresh genre in mind (Falcon and the Winter Soldier). The stars of the movie are shown in what appears to be a possibly heartwarming story in a new shot from the movie that was exclusively released by Empire Magazine.

The picture shows Harbour’s friendly-looking ghost, who is portrayed by Mackie, smiling just behind Mackie’s character as he converses with a young child. Although the image doesn’t reveal anything new about the movie’s plot, it does hint at a fun and lighthearted outing from a director typically renowned for R-rated slasher films. The newest movie from Netflix’s expanding library will be based on the Vice publication “Ernest,” and it tells the narrative of a youngster who, after relocating to a new house, encounters a ghost named Ernest (Harbour), who is mute and has no memory of his previous existence.

In an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine, Landon remarked, “[David and I] talked about how underlying all of the misery and memory loss, there were still the seeds of a man who was genuinely loving, a touch cheeky, and crafty.” I found it appealing because Ernest had the appearance of a tax accountant who had been through a beating. We Have A Ghost, which will make its official Netflix debut next month, should provide viewers with an entertaining and possibly moving experience thanks to its unique idea and skilled direction.

Landon is most known for his critically acclaimed and commercially successful slasher comedies, including Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U, and Freaky. We Have A Ghost is a genre transition for the director, who has a career that tends toward a more mature audience, with a focus on drama and an emotionally stirring plot. With regard to the shift in genre from his earlier works, Landon remarked, “I really wanted to flex certain muscles that I felt like I had but hadn’t been able to use previously.” One of those is a lengthy, emotional story that pays off in the end.
