Kathryn says “My life changed in ways I could never imagine” after leaving Southern Charm
Everything excellent has to come to an end. After eight seasons, Southern Charm will be without Kathryn Dennis, she announced.
“What a wild ride it’s been!” Dennis, 31, told People in a statement on Wednesday, January 11. “Can you believe I was 21 when I first started filming Southern Charm, back in its first season? That was in 2013, and in the decade that followed, it’s safe to say my life changed in ways I could never imagine. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m so lucky to have had reality cameras there, capturing so many moments that I’ll never forget (and a few, even, that I’d like to).”
The model thanked viewers for watching her “grow up” and become a “mom to two lovely children and make connections I’ll always treasure.” The model has been a part of the cast since the show’s debut in 2014. Dennis and his former castmate Thomas Ravenel, who featured on seasons 1 through 6 of the reality series before leaving amid sexual assault charges, have two children together: Kensington Calhoun, 8, and Saint Julian, 6. The 2019 lawsuit against the ex-politician was resolved. (Ravenel, 60, and his ex-wife Heather Mascoe also have a son named Jonathan, 2).
She continued, “Through it all, the love y’all have shown for me not only gave me the strength I needed to tackle it all but helped me realize that I wasn’t alone. I’m so grateful. “I’ll be carrying that love with me as I enter this next chapter of my life, away from the Southern Charm lens. I’m thankful for Bravo, the producers at Haymaker, and my Charleston cast mates for everything.”
The South Carolina native said that although she would regret her time on the popular Bravo series, she was looking forward to what the future might hold. “It’ll be a fun journey if it’s anything like the last ten years.” Let’s f-king leave, she said as she ended her sentence.
One day prior to the announcement of Dennis’ departure, Deadline had revealed that she would be listed as a guest star on the forthcoming ninth season of Southern Charm. The mother of two joined the show as a part-time cast member at first, but in season 2 she was promoted to series regular after she and Ravenel developed a romance.
The eighth season of the program featured Dennis’ most recent union with ex-boyfriend Chleb Ravenell. In 2020, the two started dating but broke up in the middle of the production.
“Every time we would film, it’d just be an argument,” Ravenell, 34, exclusively told Us Weekly in July 2022 about watching their romance and breakup on the show. “It was getting petty. So we were just like, ‘You know what? We should just break this off.’”
He added, “She wasn’t telling me what she was going through. She was telling me she was going through like court cases and stuff where her kids and custody battles [were involved] … She wasn’t telling me about her relationships [with the cast]. I was just coming in blind, helping her. And then it kind of just all fell on me.”
The presence of the Ravenell on season 9 of Southern Charm, which also features Craig Conover, Shep Rose, Austen Kroll, Venita Aspen, and Leva Bonaparte, has not yet been confirmed. Season 8 also featured prominent parts for Naomie Olindo, Madison LeCroy, and Paige DeSorbo, who is dating Conover, 33.
