Kevin Williamson has high regard for the New York sequel to Scream VI
The year 2023 is already shaping up to be a tremendous one for the horror genre. While M3GAN is now dominating the box office, Ghostface will make a triumphant comeback in Scream VI in March. The venerable meta-slasher franchise will be back in less than two months. Last month, the promotion for the follow-up began joyfully stabbing the hearts of horror aficionados. Kevin Williamson, the series’ original creator, has now lauded the episode that focused on New York.
Williamson’s latest COVID slasher Sick was on a press tour, and the writer spoke with Syfy about his anticipation for Scream VI. It doesn’t feel like Part 6, Williamson remarked; rather, it feels like you’re watching a vast, brand-new creation. He said that he had witnessed Ghostface’s most recent killing spree, claiming, “I had a huge grin on my face when I watched the movie. It’s everything and more, in my opinion. And visiting New York was fantastic. The film has a brand-new, revitalized, and fresh feeling.”
Williamson, who served as an executive producer for the franchise, is back. Along with other 90s and 2000s horror movies including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cursed, and The Facility, Williamson is most known for penning the scripts for Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4. With last year’s successful Scream remake, Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Tyler Gillett succeeded the late Wes Craven as filmmakers. That movie served as a tribute to the series, contemporary sequels, and Wes Craven’s own illustrious horror heritage. “Radio Silence is great, they’re the perfect individuals to take the torch,” William gushed about the directorial team.
The author would conclude by expressing his admiration for Scream VI and adding, “I am so excited about Scream VI. It’s excellent. The best. There is no avoiding it. I’m delighted with how it came out. I actually am that passionate about it. I’m much energized.
There is so much unreleased anticipation for Scream VI, and like always, Scream fans are speculating about what Ghostface’s bloody scheme is this time. We didn’t learn much from the fantastic but ambiguous Subway teaser trailer, but what we did learn is that this movie is continuing the tale of the newly popular sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), who have fled Woodsboro for the streets of New York City. Along with other returning survivors Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), the twin’s Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Hayden Panettiere), who were last seen in Scream 4, Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), who was last seen in that movie, will also make an appearance (Jasmin Savoy Brown).
Additionally, Sidney Prescott, the series “Final Girl,” will not appear in this movie (Neve Campbell). That has been confirmed for the time being, however, based on some of the most recent marketing and advertising, Sam’s father is still a serial murderer and haunts her. Sam seems to be the link that connects everything.
