Sara Bareilles and Joe Tippett are engaged! Tippett, 40, proposed to the singer, 43, according to an early Sunday morning Instagram post.

“Yes, I will wed this man. It’s a simple, earnest, and unhurried YES “Alongside a picture of herself gazing adoringly at Tippett, Bareilles wrote.

“@joetipps you are exactly who I want. The more I know you the more I know I love you…and you have introduced me to parts of myself I was afraid to love,” she continued. “And now I love ME more because of you. So really this is all about me. Just kidding.”

Bareilles added “How wonderful you are. Start the games now. Moving forward into everything with you.”

While collaborating on the musical adaption of Adrienne Shelly’s 2007 film Waitress, for which Bareilles composed the score, in August 2015 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Grammy winner and Tippett met.

Although he didn’t initially transfer with the show when it first went to Broadway in April 2016, Tippett played Earl, the temperamental husband of the story’s protagonist Jenna. The following year, he took on the part, but regrettably just missed Bareilles, whose run as Jenna had already been sold out.

The two made their first public appearances at the 2017 Tony Awards, EW’s Upfront Party, and the opening night of the play All the Fine Boys by The New Group two years later.

In September 2019, Bareilles and Tippett celebrated their third wedding anniversary. The “Love Song” musician shared a gallery of adorable photos of the couple to the Girls5eva star’s Instagram to mark the event. Three years feels like three hundred, she jokingly said in the caption for the pictures.

“Can’t wait for it to be forever,” Bareilles added.

Fans and Bareilles’ close friends were instantly confused by that last remark, believing that she and Tippett were making an engagement announcement. The next day, Bareilles gave more details.

“We are not engaged, just in love,” she said on her Instagram Story. “Note to self; don’t use the word forever in posts about your relationship because boy, do you get texts about it!”

She then uploaded a picture of her ring-free hand to Instagram.

“No engaged everyone but thank you for all the cute wishes and the reminder that my post may have [misled] you. Haha sorrryyyyyyy,” she labeled the photo.

Bareilles disclosed she tested positive in July of the same year, just before the COVID-19 epidemic began in March of that year. She discussed her recovery with Tippett at the time in an interview.

She remarked, “He took good care of me. Through it all, “he was a nice friend and companion.”

Bareilles revealed in other parts of the interview what it’s like to write music while in a committed relationship. She explains, “I had a worry that if I was happy and fulfilled in a relationship, I wouldn’t write music anymore. But right now, I’m looking for a mate and wandering.”

The “Brave” singer wrote on Instagram earlier this year about her experience taking medicine “for the first time” while dealing with depression and anxiety.

“The truth is that this medication allowed me to once again recognize myself, free from the mask of worry and sadness. I can clearly recall: “Before thanking Tippett for his support, Bareilles wrote in the post’s caption.

He received a “I love you” from the singer, who also said she is “fortunate” to have “a great boyfriend and angelic friends who have listened, lifted up, comforted and pushed me to do what needs to be done to feel well.”
