Avatar: The Way of Water continued to make money at the international box office over yet another weekend when people watched movies in theatres around the world. According to projections from Sunday, director James Cameron’s science fiction blockbuster has now made a total of $2.174 billion worldwide, leaving it only a little bit below third place in the all-time rankings. That birth goes to another Cameron movie, Titanic, which earned $2.2 billion worldwide.

After adding $27.9 million to bring its worldwide total to $1.538 billion, Avatar: The Way of Water has now eclipsed Titanic to occupy third place in those box office rankings, trailing Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame ($1.9 billion overseas) and Avatar ($2.1 billion overseas).

Nevertheless, despite being a huge hit in foreign markets like China (with an estimated gross of $240.6 million thus far), France ($141.5M), Germany ($130.7M), South Korea ($105.5M), and the United Kingdom ($88.2M), Avatar: The Way of Water is still in fourth place overall with a gross of over $2.174 billion. Avatar holds the record for highest global gross ($2.899 billion), followed by Avengers: Endgame ($2.794 billion). The aforementioned Titanic, which rounds out the top three globally, has a chance to overtake Avatar: The Way of Water in the near future.
