The most enjoyable aspect of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a mediocre beginning to the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is neither its study of the quantum realm or the challenges faced by the superhero team that is unintentionally sent there. Instead, Jonathan Majors’ unrivalled performance as the title character takes every single second he is on screen.

His performance as Kang the Conqueror elevates even the most straightforward sequences, and any future movies should gather around him. Although he had previously appeared in a Marvel narrative as part of Loki’s ending as a different version of this character, his performance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania demonstrates his ability to carry even the most tenuous of plots. It would be wise to make his most recent villainous turn the center of attention moving ahead because of the constantly expanding cinematic world that is currently facing an uncertain future over where to go next.

While there have been a few noteworthy one-off antagonists in some of the most recent MCU movies, no one else has been able to step into the enormous shoes left by the last main antagonist. Though he permanently altered the course of human history, the characters haven’t faced a villain with a bald head like Thanos and his plans to annihilate billions of people in quite some time. Scott (Paul Rudd) even had the time to create a book about the entire situation in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

There must be more to keep the MCU films together if they are to continue, which seems likely given their enormous box office successes and Kevin Feige’s purported aspirations to continue them for decades. The MCU already gives off the impression that it is reverting to tried-and-true formulae, which makes it challenging to anticipate the inevitable addition of more.

It might get monotonous going back and forth between the same individuals, especially when they all see that there isn’t anything to challenge them. Majors has demonstrated that he is more than qualified for the position moving forward and that there is a need to be open to letting new, influential figures take the lead in order to push back against this.
