Irish actor Paul Mescal has been working hard to prepare for his role in the upcoming Gladiator sequel, and he is hopeful that soon enough, people will be able to tell.
“Every time someone asks me if I’ve started working out, I’m like, ‘What do you mean? You can’t tell?’” the actor told Variety at the Independent Spirit Awards.
“I’m working hard. Hopefully, when you see me in three or four weeks you’ll be able to see it. I like to exercise. It’s not something I dread, thank God.”
“I imagine it will be like the classic thing of eating lots of chicken and broccoli. I’m looking forward to it because anything that is kind of structured and difficult, it’s kinda fun.”
Nonetheless, the actor from Normal People confessed that “shoulders” is his least favorite move in the performance.
“I don’t like doing shoulders so much,” Mescal said.
For the second Gladiator movie, Ridley Scott will once again serve as the director. The first movie, which came out in 2000 and received 12 Oscar nominations, won best picture and lead actor for Russell Crowe.
As the star of the Aftersun film, Mescal is nominated for an Oscar this year. Mescal also discussed how his life has changed as a result of receiving an Oscar nomination. “It’s mad.”
With a supporting role in the psychological drama The Lost Daughter, Mescal made his film debut (2021). However, his breakout performance came in the miniseries Normal People (2020), for which he received a BAFTA TV Award and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
