WHO expresses concern over coronavirus outbreak outside China

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shown concern. He commented after Iran’s announcement of two more deaths. Deaths increased to four.

He said that the window of chance to contain the virus was “narrowing”.

According to Iranian health officials, the virus may already prevail in “all Iran’s cities”.

Note that there are 1,152 confirmed cases of coronavirus in 26 countries. Eight deaths were also reported. Among them, two deaths were reported from South Korea.

Apart from that, there are 75,567 confirmed cases of coronavirus in China. Over 2,239 people have lost their lives in the country.

Dr. Tedros said that although the number of cases outside China is small, the pattern of infection was tormenting.

He said, “We are concerned about the number of cases with no clear epidemiological link, such as travel history to or contact with a confirmed case,”

He also said that new deaths and outbreaks in Iran were very concerning.

However, he also said that the measures China and other countries have taken implies that there was still a “fighting chance” of stopping new cases. He also had invited countries to use more resources to fight against the possible outbreak.

TEHRANIran’s Health Ministry confirmed the first two cases of coronavirus in the country on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said the two cases were confirmed in Qom city, south of Tehran.

According to the sources of Anadolu Agency, A number of suspected cases were also quarantined in the same city in the past two days, he said. He, however, did not reveal the nationalities of the confirmed cases.

On Wednesday, China’s National Health Commission said the coronavirus death toll in the country was up to 2,005, and 136 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.

Over 75,000 cases have been confirmed in China and other countries, including the U.S., UK, Singapore, France, Russia, Spain, and India.
