According to officials, Singapore has fully vaccinated 80 percent of its 5.7 million people against COVID-19, making it the world’s most vaccinated country and paving the way for further easing of restrictions.

“We have crossed another milestone, where 80% of our population has received their full regimen of two doses,” Ong Ye Kung said in a post on social media.

“It means Singapore has taken another step forward in making ourselves more resilient to COVID-19,” he added. “It is the result of the collective effort of many people working behind the scenes, and the people of Singapore coming forward to take care of themselves and the people around them.”

According to sources, the tiny city-state now has the world’s highest rate of complete vaccinations.

Other countries with high vaccination rates include the UAE, Uruguay, and Chile, where more than 70% of their populations have been fully vaccinated.

Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna created the majority of the vaccines used in Singapore‘s vaccination campaign, which began in January.

Earlier this month, Singapore’s health minister, Ong, stated that if the country can “continue to keep the number of severe cases and illnesses under control and our healthcare capacity is not stretched,” then the country will open up its economy and resume social activities and quarantine-free travel.
