For people at increased risk of developing a serious illness, Covid-19 booster shots will be made available in the fall of this year, according to British Health Minister Steve Barclay.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization, Britain’s vaccine advisors, stated earlier on Wednesday that preparations should be taken to provide such a booster shot.

For a smaller group of adults, such as the elderly and immunocompromised individuals, it also recommended an additional booster vaccination dosage in the spring.

Barclay posted on Twitter, “We’re changing the Covid vaccination programme for 2023 after advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination & Immunisation (JCVI).”

In addition to the anticipated booster in the fall, Barclay stated that a second booster “may” be provided in the spring for those who are most at risk.

On February 12, the 2022 autumn booster programme in England will come to an end.
