India: Atleast 17 killed in heavy rains and flash floods in Pune

At least 17 people have been killed due to flooding as heavy rains battered Pune city of India.

According to Indian television, 17, including women and children were killed in incidents of flooding and wall collapse.

Flash floods in the district collapsed Walls and washed away the vehicles.

Nearly 16,000 people, including some stuck on rooftops and trees, as flash floods caused by torrential rains caught people unawares, were rescued to safe places.

The Army also rescued another 300 people, including some stranded on rooftops of their houses, from Solapur road area.

Cheif Minister condemned the incidents, which occured due to natural disasters and confirmed that all necessary assistance will be provided in the affected areas.

Schools and colleges in various tehsils of Pune declared a holiday today in view of the deluge.
