Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the north of Afghanistan is becoming a new springboard for international terrorist organizations.

According to Afghan media, Sergey Lavrov, while addressing the United Nations Security Council, said that the north of Afghanistan risks becoming a new springboard for Daesh and other international terrorist organizations.

Lavrov said that the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have focused their attention on the threats coming from Afghanistan.

Russian Foreign Minister added that it requires relevant external assistance to Afghanistan in order to overcome those threats and challenges.

He pointed out that recent experience demonstrates that economic cooperation with Afghanistan cannot be implemented unless the threats there are addressed.
