British Prime Minister Boris Johnson calls for a general election in the United Kingdom on December 12.

According to the British Broadcasting Agency, Boris Johnson has called for a December 12 general election to end the deadlock in Brexit.

In this regard, Boris Johnson has also written a letter to Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the opposition party.

The PM says an election is required to help the country move on after MPs voted for his Brexit deal but rejected the timetable for scrutinizing it and asked for more time.

A cautious Jeremy Corbyn told that he still wants to make sure a no-deal Brexit is taken off the table, and it is understood that he will only make his final decision once the EU has confirmed what extension the UK will be offered.

Earlier on October 17, efforts to reach a Brexit deal before Thursday’s summit of European leaders were continued in Brussels.

Negotiators from both sides are trying to bridge what senior EU official Michel Barnier called “big gaps”.

EU ambassadors were told that the UK would make concessions on its customs plan for Northern Ireland.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Boris Johnson said the government was preparing to leave on 31 October and it was time to “get Brexit done”.

Both sides had said they hope to agree a deal before the EU summit, and if that happens, the government says it will introduce a withdrawal agreement bill to be voted on next Saturday in a special Parliamentary session.
