11 deaths have been reported in violence against rising living costs in Santiago, Chile.

As per the International media sources, Chile’s government has extended a state of emergency to cities in its north and south after at least 11 people died amid violent clashes and arson attacks over the weekend.

The Chilean Army General advised citizens to stay at home during the curfew.

Police and the military fired tear gas and used water cannon against protesters in the city as clashes over price hikes and social inequality raged.

1,900 people had been charged in connection with that day’s protests.

Government called a state of emergency and deploy troops onto the streets for the first time since Augusto Pinochet’s military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990.
