Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali has won the Nobel Peace Prize 2019.

100th Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Abiy Ahmed Ali was recognized for starting peace talks with Eritrea and establishing a peace agreement to end the long deadlock between the two countries.

In a series of tweets Official account of Nobel peace prize stated that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has been awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2019 for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.

It further stated “The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize is also meant to recognize all the stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia and in the East and Northeast African regions.”

“In close cooperation with Isaias Afwerki, the President of Eritrea, this year’s Peace Laureate Abiy Ahmed quickly worked out the principles of a peace agreement to end the long “no peace, no war” stalemate between Ethiopia and Eritrea,” It added.

Abiy Ahmed Ali was recognized for starting peace talks with Eritrea and establishing a peace agreement to end the long deadlock between the two countries.

The statement issued by office of the Ethiopian prime minister stated “We are proud as a nation” for winning the prestigious award.

The statement further added “This victory and recognition is a collective win for all Ethiopians, and a call to strengthen our resolve in making Ethiopia – the new horizon of hope – a prosperous nation for all.”

There were a total of 301 nominations for the award, including 223 combined individuals and 78 organizations.
