21 Died due to a strong earthquake in Albania

At least 21 people have died due to the earthquake the capital of Albania-Tirana and the west and north parts of the country. The earthquake caused at least 21 deaths and turn several buildings and residents into debris.

According to international media sources, an earthquake of over 6.4 magnitudes affect the lives and caused great destruction in Tirana and the western Port of Durres at 4 a.m. The residents rushed from the apartment buildings.

One of the survivors informed that Durres, which is a tourist place point and Albania’s major port, was the epicenter. She further said that over 600 resident was injured and they were given treatment.

Apart from this, 250 aftershocks of magnitude 5 hit Balkan country, according to Defense Minister Olta Xhacka.

48-year-old Marjana Gjoka said that when the earthquake devastated the top of a five-storey building, she was sleeping in her apartment on the fourth floor. Her three-year-old niece was also among the four people, who were in the apartment. She added, “The roof collapsed on our head and I don’t know how to escape. God helped us.”

It should be remembered that the 5.6-magnitude earthquake had happened earlier in Albania which caused dozens of injuries and devastation of building in September this year.

The government had said it was the most powerful quake to hit the Balkan country in nearly 30 years.

The earthquake had struck west of the capital, Tirana, just after 4 p.m. local time on Saturday.

According to the US Geological Survey, its epicenter was near the coastal city of Durres and about 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep.
