Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observed India’s Republic Day, the 26th January, as Black Day, today, to impress upon the world to take notice of India’s continued denial of right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people.

According to the details, In Azad Kashmir, rallies and demonstrations were held at all the Districts and Tehsil headquarters against illegal Indian occupation over Kashmir.

In Muzaffarabad, different political, social and religious organizations staged protest demonstrations and rallies to observe the black day.

According to Radio Pakistan, The main protest demonstration jointly organized by Kashmir Liberation Cell and Pasban Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir was held at Burhan Muzaffar Wani Shaheed Chowk.

Later, a rally led by Pakistan Peoples’ Party AJK Chapter President Chaudhary Latif Akbar and others was taken out from Burhani Wani Shaheed Chowk to Afzal Guru Chowk

Addressing on the occasion, speakers said that India, which usurped the fundamental rights of Kashmiris has no right to celebrate its so called Republic Day.

Large number of people holding banners and placards shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. They also released black balloons in the air.

At the end, participants of the rally presented a memorandum to United Nations Observers Mission Office in Muzaffarabad.

Earlier, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells has urged India to release detained Kashmiri political leaders.

The US diplomat Alice wells also urged India to permit regular access to american  diplomats, and to move swiftly to release those political leaders detained without charge.

Alice wells was on a trip to the region and also visited Islamabad.
