At least three rocket attacks were carried out at the US embassy in Baghdad yesterday.

At least three people were wounded in the attacks.

Sources revealed that one rocket hit the embassy cafeteria whereas two other rockets came down a short distance away.

The US accused Iran-backed military factions in Iraq. No group has accepted the responsibility for the attacks.

Iraq Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi condemned the incident and said that such types of acts could “drag Iraq into becoming a battlefield”.

However, the US state department demanded, “We call on the Government of Iraq to fulfill its obligations to protect our diplomatic facilities.”

The target was Al-Asad airbase in Iraq which houses US & coalition forces.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards confirmed they fired the missiles to retaliate for last week’s killing of Qassem Soleimani.
