US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells has urged India to release detained Kashmiri political leaders.

The US diplomat Alice wells also urged India to permit regular access to american  diplomats, and to move swiftly to release those political leaders detained without charge.

Alice wells was on a trip to the region and also visited Islamabad.

Earlier this month, The US State Department expressed concerns over the arrests of political leaders and residents and communication blackout in occupied Kashmir.

US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells said, “We look forward to a return to normalcy in the valley.”

She also stated that US is closely following the trip of diplomats to Jammu & Kashmir.

It is to remember mentioned here that Alice Wells traveled to Pakistan from January 19 to January 22.

Alice’s tour to Pakistan was a part of her 10-day visit to the region.

The US envoy  held meetings with senior government officials to deliberate upon the matters of mutual and regional interests.

According to an official statement by US, Wells visited Sri Lanka and India before reaching Pakistan.

During her visit to Islamabad, Alice Wells  held meetings with civil and military leadership

The meetings to discuss regional peace and security.

The US top official also met members of civil society to discuss issues of bilateral and regional concern, the department said.

Alice Wells also announced the resumption of a training programme for Pakistan’s military officials.
