At least 40 killed in attacks in central Mali

In Mali, at least forty people, including nine soldiers, have been killed in three different incidents.

Thirty-one have been killed when gunmen attacked a village in central Mali, burning houses, crops and livestock.

According to the sources, A group of eight soldiers also killed in an ambush, while another was killed during an attack on a military camp in the Gao region.

The Malian government said the armed men burned homes and looted livestock in the village of Ogossagou, a village of Fulani herders in the central Mopti region, during the attack on Friday morning.

At least 31 civilians were killed in an attack overnight in Ogossagou, the government said, without saying who carried out the violence. Last March, 160 people died in the mostly Fulani village in a massacre blamed on Dogon militiamen.

In a separate incident, Malian security forces said on Twitter that they had sustained “material damage” during an ambush in the village of Bintia, which killed eight soldiers.

A ninth soldier was killed in another attack at a camp in Mondoro, which is regularly targeted by militants.
