School stampede kills 14 children in Kenyan

An unfortunate incident occurred in Kenya where fourteen children have been killed and at least 39 more pupils badly injured in a stampede.

According to the details, the stampede occurred at approximately 5:00 pm (14:00 GMT) as the students rushed down a staircase at the end of classes at the Kakamega Primary School in western Kenya.

Education Minister of Kenya George Magoha confirmed the death toll to the local TV.

“We lost 14 of them,” he said.

“One life (lost) is a life too many.”

Police chief David Kabena told journalists in Kakamega town “We have lost 13 children in this stampede and we have others in hospital with injuries.”

Kenya Red Cross said on Twitter that emergency services were responding to a “fatal stampede” at the school.

Former Prime Minister of Kenya Raila Odinga said on Twitter “My heartfelt condolences to parents that have lost loved ones in the unfortunate and regrettable tragedy at Kakamega Primary School. I wish a quick recovery to the injured children and pray that God grant strength to the affected families.”
