The first infant death has been reported due to coronavirus in the United States in the Chicago area.

Dr. Ngozi Ezike, the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health said, “There has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant,” “A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of death. We must do everything we can to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If not to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us.”

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump said quarantining New York “will not be necessary”, as state’s governor said quarantining would be “preposterous”.

Donald Trump said the measure has been taken as per the recommendation of the White House Task Force.
The president had earlier said that quarantine might be imposed on New York, and a few areas of New Jersey and Connecticut to lower the spread of coronavirus.

Note that New York has reported more than 52,000 confirmed cases so far. The state has around half of the total cases in the US.

Donald Trump tweeted that a “strong travel advisory” would be issued to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) instead of quarantine.

The CDC issued a statement in which they insisted on the citizens to “refrain” from all unnecessary domestic travel for two weeks.

Trump said while speaking to the reporters, “We’d like to see [it] quarantined because it’s a hotspot… I’m thinking about that.” “They’re having problems down in Florida. A lot of New Yorkers are going down. We don’t want that,”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo responded, “If you said we were geographically restricted from leaving, that would be a lockdown.”
