Coronavirus-Austria to open shops, Denmark to open schools, France to extend lockdown

Austria is likely to open thousands of shops on Tuesday and ease the restrictions that were imposed to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

According to the step-by-step plan to reopen the economy, Garden centers, DIY stores, and small shops will be reopened.

Note that Austria has 6,330 active cases of coronavirus and 368 people have died. A total of 7,343 people have recovered. 

France has 94,094 active cases whereas 27,718 and 14,967 have died.

Globally, there are 1,357,657, 447,821 have recovered whereas 14,967 have died.

But stay at home guidelines will remain in force. People are directed to keep wearing masks at supermarkets and pharmacies. 

On the other hand, Denmark has decided to reopen schools for younger children.

Spain has also eased restrictions and has permitted some businesses to restart their work. 

Italy is likely to allow a narrow range of companies to reopen its operations on Tuesday. 

However, the French have decided to extend the lockdown until 11 May. 

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a televised address that the current restrictions had slowed the spread of the virus but has not beaten it.

The World Health Organization has welcomed the slowing down of COVID-19 cases in some European countries. But it has threatened against lifting measures too early. 

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that lifting measures too early “could lead to a deadly resurgence”.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the outbreak in France “beginning to steady… (and) hope is returning”.

“The eleventh of May will be the start of a new phase,” “It will be progressive and the rules can be adapted according to our results.”
