Nigeria is expected to gradually ease lockdown measures for millions of people in Lagos and the capital city Abuja.

Nigeria has 1,337 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Out of these, forty people died whereas 255 had recovered. There are now 1,042 active cases of coronavirus.

President Muhammadu Buhari informed the people that the lockdown is required to continue till 4th May.

Nigeria has also imposed other measures nationwide, such as curfew in night timings and compulsory face mask.

President Buhari said that the measures taken would make sure the economy works “while still maintaining our aggressive response”

The lockdown ease will apply to Abuja, Lagos, and Ogun state where lockdown has been imposed since March 30.

A police spokesperson has reported that the workers at the lekki Free Trade zone injured officers in the area. Fifty-one people were arrested.

Mr. Buhari had said in a televised speech, “Many of our citizens have lost their means of livelihood. Many businesses have shut down,”

“No country can afford the full impact of a sustained lockdown while awaiting the development of vaccines.”

He added that there would be a “phased and gradual easing” of lockdowns next Monday to reopen some economic activities.
