An Indian army officer and 2 soldiers were killed during a “violent face-off” with the Chinese army in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley amid clashes between China and India.

The army said in a statement, “During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday night with casualties. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation,”

Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, condemned the killings.
He said in a tweet, “If the Chinese shoot dead an Indian army colonel & two jawans during a “de-escalation process” imagine how escalated the situation must be in the first place. This is what happens when the media propagates the government line that asking questions is anti-national.”

On the other hand, China blamed India for crossing a “disputed border” between China and Ladakh. Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that the Indian army crossed the border twice on Monday, “provoking and attacking Chinese personnel, resulting in a serious physical confrontation between border forces on the two sides”.
